Maternity care and childbirth — services provided before and after your child is born — are essential health benefits. All qualified health plans inside and outside the Marketplace must cover them. You get this coverage even if you're already pregnant before your coverage started.

Health plans sold inside and outside the Marketplace must provide a Summary of Benefits and Coverage document. Page 7 of most summaries gives you all the details on how plans cover the costs of childbirth.
